DALLAS — International opera singer Rebecca Fromherz, accompanied by pianist and Western Oregon University music instructor Jackie Morelli, will perform a Thanksgiving benefit concert and hymn sing-a-long to benefit the Victim Offender Reconciliation Program.

The performance is set for Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1079 SE Jefferson St., Dallas.

The concert will feature modern arrangements of spirituals interspersed with traditional Thanksgiving hymns to which the audience will sing along.

The concert is in support and recognition of the work that VORP does for Polk County.

VORP provides free mediation services between predominantly juvenile offenders and the victims of their crimes.

“We give youth a chance to take responsibility,” said Ken Braun, the executive director of VORP. “If the victim is willing, we offer opportunities to talk about a resolution, whether that be restitution, an apology or community service.”

VORP also provides family mediation for children who are runaways and their parents and community mediation to help resolve issues between employers and employees, co-workers and neighbors.

Braun said money raised at the benefit concert will help VORP offset the costs of providing its mediation services.

A freewill offering will be accepted in support of VORP; refreshments will be provided.
