MONMOUTH — What critics describe as one of the best bluegrass bands currently touring is coming to Monmouth this weekend.
The Travelin’ McCourys will perform Saturday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium on the Western Oregon University Campus, 345 N. Monmouth Ave.
The concert is part of the 2010-11 Smith Fine Arts Series.
Ron McCoury (mandolin), Rob McCoury (banjo), Jason Carter (fiddle) and Alan Bartram (bass) come together to create what critics and musicians across the country hail as “the best bluegrass band in the world.”
As the sons of bluegrass legend Del McCoury, Ron and Rob McCoury continue their father’s work — a lifelong dedication to the power of bluegrass music to bring joy into people’s lives.
The Travelin’ McCourys are known for their individual prowess on their instruments and their rapidly expanding reputation as collaborators, having worked with numerous musical acts from Vince Gill and the Allman Brothers to Phish.
Tickets are $29 in advance, $31 at the door, and $11 for students.
In addition to the concert, the Travelin’ McCourys will present a free demonstration and lecture on bluegrass music Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
