Board of Higher Education appointees confirmed

The State Board of Higher Education late Friday announced the Senate confirmation of two new members: Western Oregon University faculy member Emily J. Plec and Eastern Oregon University student Brianna R. Coulombe. The Senate also confirmed the reappointment of current board member Paul J. Kelly Jr.

Plec, chair of the Department of Communication Studies at Western Oregon, replaces Eastern Oregon faculty member Rosemary Powers. Coulombe replaces Portland State University student Hannah Fisher.

The two begin their terms on Dec. 1 and will serve through June 2013.

Kelly, a retired attorney, will serve through June 2015.

There are seven public universities in the Oregon University System. The Board of Higher Education is its governing body. It has 12 members. Each is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate.

Gov. John Kitzhaber announced the appointments on Oct. 31.
