I am a Fairy Princess Mermaid from Boise, Idaho who loves to write poetry. I am starting my first year at Western Oregon University to study American Sign Language/English interpreting, and I love every second of it! I have recently discovered the Social Dance Club and have been dancing until my feet are about to fall off. I chose to tour WOU, first, because of the wonderful things I had heard about this school. When I actually came here during the summer and took a tour, I fell in love with the beautiful campus and the friendly people I met here.
My favorite thing about WOU, is the feeling I get from all the faculty and staff that says “I’m here for you, how can I help?” I feel completely free to walk up to a professor, or find them in their office and ask for help, without making an appointment or filling out a form, which I had to do at my high school. Here at Western, everyone knows what they are talking about and will help anyone go where they need to be.
Adjusting to this small town has been a bit of a shock for me, back home I live in the middle of downtown Boise. I am used to hearing sirens, emergency helicopters, and party-goers into the wee hours of the morning. Here, though there are the sounds of college life, it is very quiet, especially on the weekends!!
The best class I’ve taken on campus is Social Dance Class. I have this class on my “hard days”, and it gives me a much needed mental and physical break from sitting in classes. I love being able to get up and move in between having classes where I need to focus.
My favorite spot on campus is currently the third floor of the Library. The third floor is the “quiet floor”; this is also where all the poetry books are. Once I’m done with my homework for the day, I love to go up to the silent third floor and read a couple poems just to clear my mind.
I’m so excited to share all my adventures at WOU with all of you!
