Funky Bun recently opened in Monmouth, just a stone’s throw from the Western Oregon University campus at 145 Monmouth Ave., 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
Owner Joe Hutchinson describes the new eatery as a gourmet hot dog shop with a funky edge, cool atmosphere and (important for the college student budget) an affordable menu.
That menu includes gourmet and standard dogs. Standard includes Ol’ Yeller comes with mustard; Red Rover with catsup; Dalmatian with mustard and catsup; Not-A-Dog is a vegan with onions, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers; you can name your own dog as well. Gourmet includes standbys – New York Coney and Chicago dogs – and some with the works, such as Naughty Dog’s chopped onions, pickles, tomatoes, olives, peppers, avocado, jalapenos, chipotle sauce and pepper-jack cheese. Yes, sauerkraut is available.
Dog with chips and soda prices range from $4 to a $6 foot-long. Menu includes micro brews, fries, chili and nachos. Contact: (503) 837-1DOG (364), email@example.com, or visit funkybun.com.
