Madison McClung, a 2010 graduate of Cottage Grove High School, accomplished much in both basketball and track during her four years as a Lion. Now a senior-to-be at Western Oregon University, McClung is concentrating on track and hopes to set some more records at Western Oregon.

Looking back to being a Lion, she cites being on the 4 x 100 relay team as a sophomore (2008) as a big highlight. The team of McClung, Blair Wilkinson, Brittan Hemenway and Alex Lewis not only won the 4A state title, they set a school record of 49.52, which still stands.

Of course being an impact player when the Lion girls won the 4A basketball championship in 2010 was another experience she will never forget. She did not mention the fact that she also was twice the Sky-Em champion in the 100-meter sprint.

“If I could go back in time I would go to at least one more game and one more track meet,” said McClung, who this summer is working for her parents at Birch Avenue Dental. “That was so fun. I miss it a lot.”

Running track is going very well for McClung, who is on scholarship for the Wolves.

“I like my team a lot,” McClung said. “We’re a very close group. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
