It’s almost time for Thanksgiving! This means that turkeys everywhere are being bought and stored as the main courses for some marvelous feasts. This is also a great opportunity for people to help fund raise for the Haiti Service Learning trip.
The Service Learning Haiti team here at Western will be holding a Turkey Trot 5k Saturday, November 23 to help raise funds for their 2 week trip over Winter break to help school children and the community of Arcahaie, Haiti. The Haiti team has been hard at work trying to raise funds like holding fundraisers at Buffalo Wild Wings, selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts, having a frozation nation night and some other fundraisers.
I will definitely go and check it out. I haven’t done a 5K before so it’s a brand new experience. I plan on having some sort of cool outfit and hopefully win a prize. I’m not much of a runner so it’ll be interesting to see how well I do.
The cost of entry is $5 for children and students and $10 for general admission. Every participant will receive a bag of goodies donated by businesses of our local community. There will be prizes for the top two male and female finishers and best costume possibly gets a turkey. So try and get creative and crazy and you could win something! This could be a great way to do your first 5K run or you can add the Turkey Trot to the list of awesome and unique 5Ks you’ve done. So come out and support the Haiti team and show some holiday spirit by dressing up as a huge turkey!
