Michael Phillips, theatre professor at Western Oregon University, has directed an extremely powerful and sometimes controversial play, which is opening this week. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with lyrics by Steven Satar and music by Duncan Sheik. This is a production about teenagers exploring their sexuality, identity, and individuality in Germany in the late 19th century. The production covers topics such as sex, puberty, relationships, sexual preferences, pregnancy, friendship, strict parents, and even stricter teachers. Spring Awakening is a thought-provoking musical that will bring up a wide variety of emotions for those in the audience. With a wonderful cast of WOU students and professors, this is a production that everybody who can should go and see. The performances will be in Rice Auditorium, at 7:30 on Friday, February 28th, Saturday, March 1st, and Wednesday, March 5th through Saturday, March 8th, with a special showing on Friday March 7th at midnight.
