MONMOUTH — The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!
But this invasion should prove to be music to your ears.
Founder and music director Misha Rachlevsky brings some of Russian’s finest young string players to Monmouth this weekend, as the Chamber Orchestra of the Kremlin performs Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium on the Western Oregon University campus.
The concert is part of the 2013-14 WOU Smith Fine Arts Series.
Founded in 1991, the orchestra has carved a niche for itself under the creative baton of Rachlevsky. Whether it is the highly acclaimed CDs or the mesmerizing concerts, Chamber Orchestra of the Kremlin’s warmth and high energy create addictive performances that stay with listeners long after the last note has been played.
The orchestra’s appearance in Monmouth is part of a 16-date tour of the United States in March that includes performances Friday in Florence and Saturday in Klamath Falls.
Tickets for Sunday’s performance are $25 in advance and $28 the day of the show. Student tickets are available for $11, and WOU student rush tickets are free one hour before the event.
