On Monday, Oct. 13 Oregon’s Poet Laureate Peter Sears will be doing a special reading at Hamersley Library with guest Dawn Diez Willis. The event takes place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in room 107.
Peter Sears is an award winning and nationally recognized poet. He is a graduate of Yale University and the Iowa Writers workshop. He was appointed Oregon’s seventh Poet Laureate in April 2014. Some of the previous Laureates include Edwin Markham, Ben Hur Lampman, and Ethel Romig Fuller. He has written four full length poetry books titled Small Talk, The Brink, Green River, and Luge. Sears’ poems have been featured in major publications like The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Poetry Northwest. He currently teaches in the Pacific University low-residency MFA department.
Dawn Diez Willis received her MFA from the University of Oregon and is not only a writer, but a creative writing teacher and editor. Dawn Diez Willis is the recipient of the Oregon Literary Fellowship and is also the one-woman team behind the OSPOA’s monthly Trooper News. Her latest poetry collection titled Life with Judas and Lightning has received immense praise from poets such as Garrett Hongo and Gina Rae Foster.
