Many students around campus have found themselves without the proper transportation necessary to get themselves to a desired destination.

They could be without a car, low on money for gas, unable to drive, or whichever reason and need to find a reliable form of transportation.

Luckily, Monmouth and Western have safe, affordable, and convenient modes of transportation available for students.

First, there is the option of taking the bus. CARTS, routes 40 and 45, whose stop is conveniently located outside of the Werner Center, connects IMG_4236 (2)Monmouth to Dallas and Independence. Tickets fares, for adults, run from $2.25 for one way, $4.50 for a day pas, to $60 for a month pass.

Second, if only looking to go around the Monmouth area or to Independence, there is the option of Wolf Ride. Wolf Ride is Western’s Safe Ride program for students. Hours run Monday through Sunday 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. The service is free and all students need to do is call Wolf Ride (number posted below) and schedule a time and location for pick up and a location to be dropped off. Be sure to have your student ID or V number for verification.

Third, Western has a car rental service available called UhaulCarShare. This, perhaps, is the lesser known option for students. UhaulCarShare allows students to rent a car on campus and use it to drive to whichever destination they are able to pay for. Students pay only for the drive time they use. Rates can be as low as $4.95 an hour plus mileage depending on the car chosen. Requirements are that the student purchasing the service are at least 18 years of age and have at least two years driving experience before applying. Gas, insurance, and maintenance are all covered with rental. Log on to to apply and be approved within 24 hours.
