‘Family Weekend’ Slated At WOU

MONMOUTH — Packs of families will converge on Western Oregon University’s campus Friday through Sunday for WOU’s Family Weekend Getaway.

The event, which kicks off Friday with registration at 5 p.m. at the Werner University Center, is not just for students, but open to all in the WOU family: current students, former students, those with children attending, and local community partners.

Participants are encourage to grab dinner in downtown Monmouth or Independence before the welcome reception by WOU President Mark Weiss.

Entertainment will be provided by Jonny Zavant, mentalist, at 8 p.m. on Friday in the Werner University Center’s Pacific Room.

Saturday’s agenda is packed with exercise options, brunch and the annual look-alike competition to see who has the closest resemblance to siblings, parents or even their roommates.

Participants in the family weekend will have a chance to catch a basketball game between the nationally-ranked Wolves and Simon Fraser on Saturday at 4 p.m. before enjoying discounted movie ticket prices at Independence Cinema.

Other events available for families at WOU include participating in a blood donation event Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and geocaching around campus.
