Have you gotten into the Halloween spirit yet? Even though Halloween is already this Saturday, there is still time to do all of the fun things you’ve talked about doing but have yet to do, like picking pumpkins with friends, taking a hay ride, or getting up the courage to voluntarily go be terrified at a haunted house. I am going to share my suggestions of places to go that will fulfill your needs to get into the halloween/fall spirit.
No matter how old you get, there is still a certain excitement that comes along with picking the perfect pumpkin. At Airlie Hills Farm, you have that opportunity. It is about 8 miles south of campus, between Monmouth and Corvallis. There are 5 acres of pumpkins to choose from and a corn maze. The pumpkins are decently priced, so even on a college budget you can afford this one! Airlie Hills
If you are beyond the cute pumpkin picking / cider sipping thing, maybe you should consider a haunted house. In Salem at the Oregon School for the Deaf, there is an annual haunted house– The Nightmare Factory. For just $15 you get entrance to two different haunted houses that are guaranteed to scare your pants off. If you have a large group going, there are even group rates available through their website. If you happen to miss out this week, there are extra scares to be had. Two nights in November the Nightmare Factory re-opens and runs the haunted houses 100% in the dark. No lights allowed. The whole group is given one glow stick, and you are left to fend for yourself while the ghosts and ghouls run amuck. If that doesn’t sound scary to you, I don’t know what would. Nightmare Factory
My next suggestion really is not for the faint of heart. Our worst nightmares have come true and there is a full contact haunted house in Oregon. Yup. They can touch you, and chase you down like you are smack dab in the middle of a horror movie. You have to sign a waiver of course, which doesn’t scare me one bit… try this out at your own risk guys. I’d say its for the REAL thrill-seekers this halloween. House of Shadows
So, grab a few friends and go enjoy yourselves this week. Have a happy and safe Halloween, WOU!
