Feeling stressed out? Anxious? Drained? You are not alone. The “winter term blues” are felt by plenty of students, including myself. Combine rainy days with the pressures of midterms, work, and general day to day issues and you can be left feeling drained. Fortunately, WOU has several resources on campus for students to work out your stress, talk to someone, or relax in a quiet space.
Hit the gym.
The Peter Courtney Health and Wellness Center is a fantastic facility, complete with a rock climbing wall, pool, indoor track, as well as rooms for racquetball and exercise classes. To see a schedule of fitness classes offered for winter term, check out the calendar. Hit the gym solo or find a workout buddy to keep you company. The WOU Student Health Center has plenty of resources for students, including medical, counseling, and health education. It’s easy to book an appointment, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Their website has some helpful tips on coping with stress, including talking to friends, being positive, and getting plenty of sleep. If you need a quiet place to meditate, then visit the Prayer and Meditation Room in Maaske Hall. Few students know of this resource, but room 114 is open to all students as a peaceful place to get away from the hustle and bustle.
