Elani Elkins is a 2016 Western Oregon University graduate, graduating with a degree in business. Coming from Albany, Ore., Elkins originally chose WOU because it was close to home and she was interested in the education program. Like many other college students, after taking a few college classes she decided that she was more interested in business than education.
Her favorite thing about her time at Western was working for Gentle House. After this and her time as a resident assistant (RA), she felt much more connected to the school and more pride in being a wolf. These experiences gave her the opportunity to meet a lot more people and made her feel that this was the school that she was meant to go to. During her time as an RA, she helped with an event called Quad Fest. She said this was her favorite event, because she was involved in planning it. She enjoyed having a say in what happened at the event. Her favorite thing was helping choose the prizes. This was an event that consisted of food, trivia, and of course, prizes for all the residents of the quad.
After graduation she will be interning at a hostile. In January, she is taking some time off to travel to Tibet to visit some friends, and although she doesn’t know where yet, grad school is in her plans next spring.
What does she wish she knew as a freshman? Senioritis is real! She wishes she would have known how unmotivated she would be in this last term and plan classes accordingly. She says if she would have known this, she would have packed more into her first terms of college.
Congratulations on graduating, Elani! Good luck on all your future endeavors!
