
Whether it is strolling down memory lane, discovering traditions or cheering at the football game, Western Oregon University’s 2019 Homecoming is an opportunity for creates a camaraderie for community members, alumni and students.
Western Oregon University’s 2019 Homecoming theme “Wild, Wild Western,” provides plenty of opportunities for students, alumni and community members to celebrate their school spirit.
Alumni are invited to take a stroll down memory lane and reconnect with classmates while discovering what’s new at the college and its future plans.
As the new student engagement organizations and activities coordinator, Kelly Welch is quickly learning about WOU’s Homecoming traditions. She encourages students and alumni to participate in events happening Monday, Oct. 14 to Saturday, Oct. 19. Student events include a carnival, painting the wolf, a hoedown, a bonfire pep rally, and the tailgate/football game.
“Homecoming is the quintessential college event that brings people together to celebrate their school,” Welch said.
She’s looking forward to the 40th annual PowerPuff game on Friday.
“It’s a fun competition with the off-campus students playing the on-campus students and where alumni and students serve as coaches,” Welch said. “After the game, the Students Activities Board is having the pep rally and a bonfire.”
Downtown Monmouth businesses are looking forward to Paint the Town Red, a contest where they decorate their windows.
“The businesses are really excited to show their support and their pride in WOU,” she said.
Alumni relations coordinator Emily Lafon invites alumni to attend activities on Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19.
Alumni events include walking tours, a kickoff luncheon, reunion for Wolves athletes, and a breakfast. There are two lifelong learning presentations, “Your Health and the Aging Brain,” and Social Media 101.”
“Homecoming is an opportunity for alumni to relive memories, discover what’s new on campus and make new memories by celebrating Western Oregon,” Lafon said.

Monday, Oct. 14
Homecoming Kickoff Carnival and Paint the Wolf, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Church Street.
Tuesday, Oct. 15
- Paint the Town Red, noon to 5 p.m. downtown Monmouth.
Wednesday, Oct. 16
- WOU Wednesday Homecoming Edition, all day. Wear WOU gear for a chance to wine some wild prizes.
Thursday, Oct. 17
- Hoedown, 6 to 9 p.m. in the Pacific Room. Learn some new dance moves.
Friday, Oct. 18
- 40th annual PowerPuff Game, 6:30 p.m. Turf Field
- Bonfire Pep Rally, 8:30 p.m. field by Public Safety. Free Homecoming T-shirts will be given out until they are gone.
Saturday, Oct. 19
- Tailgate, 11 a.m. G Lot. Students can stop by for free food and fun activities.
- WOU vs. Central Washington, 1:05 p.m. McArthur Field. Wolf Royalty Announcement at halftime.
