Sally Guyer, MSW, is the newest member of A New Beginning Adoption Agency’s team as clinical social work director. She has a master’s degree in social work from Portland State University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Western Oregon University.
Guyer has spent her professional life dedicated to helping families and children, especially children with trauma backgrounds. She has facilitated the Foster-Adopt/International Program training for almost four years. As clinical director, Guyer will continue to provide essential training to families who are adopting from the foster-adopt program and the international programs as well as trauma-based classes for all agency families. She will consult directly with A New Beginning’s caseworkers, staff and families, providing guidance and assistance in tailoring care, trauma-based parenting, transition plans and service-planning for families based on brain and child development. Additionally, Sally will be very involved in the growth and implementation of the peer support programs for teen adoptees, birth families and adoptive parents.
Guyer is a Social Services Competency Based Master Trainer and holds Basic, Civil and Domestic Mediation certification. She is an adjunct professor at Portland Community College in the Child and Family Services Department, owns a consulting firm that provides top organization systems consulting as well training in attachment, trauma informed care, child development, parenting, foster parent preparation and adoption. She’s been a keynote speaker and frequent presenter at child welfare and social work conferences nationwide and has led successful teams in previous positions as the program development specialist for Oregon’s Health & Welfare Department, program manager at Morris Family Services and the director of family and child services at Boys and Girls Aid of Oregon.
