Registration for winter term opens today! With WOU classes continuing to be conducted primarily online through winter term, registration looks different than years past. There are some important things that students need to be aware of. Here’s what you need to know:
All students should have received an email with their registration date and time.
Use email/Zoom to reach out to advisers: Though you can’t stop by your adviser’s office hours for an in-person chat this term, that doesn’t mean you can’t connect with them about registration. Send them an email or schedule a Zoom meeting and chat about the term’s schedule. Make sure you reach out to your adviser so they can remove the adviser’s hold on your account.
Prepare your schedule(s) in advance: This is always a helpful tip to ensure that registration runs smoothly, but it is especially important now that advising will be done online. WOU students can take advantage of the “schedule planner” tool, which allows students to plan their schedules ahead of registration, and even compare multiple schedules to see which one works the best for them. Make a few schedules if you’re unsure of which is best for you, and email them to your adviser. The “schedule planner” tool can be found in WolfWeb.
What holds mean: Inevitably, students will run into some unexpected holds on their account that prevents them from registering. Always, always, always check your account ahead of time to avoid rushing to remove holds after registration has begun. Here’s some of the most common holds and what they mean.
- Advising hold: This hold appears on every student’s account, and needs to be removed by their adviser. Meet with your adviser to get this hold removed.
- Accounts receivable hold: This hold means one of two things: you have a past due balance from a previous term in excess of $200, or you have an incomplete Revolving Charge Form. Call the Business Office at 503-838-8201 to get this hold sorted out.
- Academic standing hold: This hold appears when a student’s GPA is below 2.0 for the term. Here is more information about this hold and how to get it removed.
Happy Registration! If you have any questions, make sure to reach out to your adviser, or Student Success and Advising.
