As we get closer and closer to June 12, 2021, graduates need to start checking to ensure they have taken all necessary steps to be eligible and ready for commencement. Here’s a quick checklist of things to consider.
APPLY TO GRADUATE: If you haven’t already done so, apply for graduation as soon as possible. It is super easy, and takes less than 5 minutes to complete. It’s super easy to do: just head to the WOU Portal and click on WolfWeb, select the student menu, and then click on student records. Within this, you will find a tab called “Apply to Graduate for Undergraduate Degree.” From there, you’ll just make sure your information is up to date, and select the term you wish to graduate. That’s it!
CHECK IN WITH ADVISORS: It is so important to check-in with advisors to make sure you are completely on track to graduate. Send out a quick email to major/minor advisors to make sure everything is good to go, and keep in regular contact throughout your final terms.
CHECK DEGREEWORKS: Hopefully you have been keeping a close eye on DegreeWorks throughout your time at WOU, and it is especially important to check it as we approach graduation. Make sure you have all prerequisites, major/minor requirements, and any other needed classes. Also be sure to check that any classes that have been subbed for another are appearing correctly. If they are not, reach out to your advisor and/or the registrar’s office.
COMMENCEMENT REGALIA: Although as of this article, we are not sure what graduation will look like, it’s important to consider what regalia you might want to purchase. These items include cap and gowns, tassels, diploma frames, etc. Here’s more information about commencement regalia.
Keep an eye out for updates about commencement as we approach graduation. The final decision for commencement plans should be made by the first day of spring term (March 29). Check your email and the WOU 2021 Commencement page frequently for the most up to date information.
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation, graduates!
