Grad Profile: Johnny Harvey

Johnny Harvey is a 2021 graduate from Tualatin, Oregon. He is a Business and Psychology double major with a minor in Sport Management.

Why did you choose WOU?

I chose WOU because it seemed like the perfect fit for me. I didn’t want to go to a school that was too big and too far away from my hometown, yet I knew that WOU would still be able to give me the great college experience that I was looking for. Also, a number of my relatives have attended WOU, and they had nothing but great things to say about it. It was one of the best decisions I ever made!

What have some of your extracurriculars been? How did those impact your time on campus?

I have been working for WOU’s Campus Public Safety Department since I first enrolled, where I got to work at the communications desk and as a parking enforcement officer. The best part of working there was the people. I can honestly say that everyone in that department works so hard to keep our campus safe. Working at CPS was an extremely rewarding experience, and it was just as important to me as anything else I did at WOU.

Do you have any advice for current and prospective students?

Introduce yourself to as many people as possible and don’t be afraid to make friends. When I first got to WOU, I was blown away by how friendly everyone was. As I look back on my time here, I know that I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish as much as I did without the support of the friends that I made.

What was your most visited spot on campus?

I have probably visited the Health & Wellness Center the most. I spent countless hours in its classrooms, in the workout area, and on its courts for a ton of intramural events. Some of my favorite memories were created in that building.

What will you miss the most about WOU?

I’ll miss the people the most. When I think of WOU, I think about the people more than anything else. I’ll miss all my friends, classmates, professors, coworkers, and so many others who made WOU so special for me.

What do you love most about the major/minors you completed?

I will be receiving a major in both Business and Psychology. While they were both really interesting in their own right, I was amazed at how much overlap there was between the two. I can’t wait to utilize all the knowledge and skills that I’ve gained in my future career.

What has been your biggest achievement in college?

My biggest achievement by far was achieving two majors and a minor in just four years. It took a lot of hard work and dedication, but I am honestly really proud of myself for accomplishing it all.

What are your plans for after graduation?

I have accepted the Game Operations Coordinator position for the Portland Pickles Baseball Club. This is the beginning of what I hope is a great career in sports marketing!
